HW 451

Character
Montag- He is a fireman who burns the book. One day night, when he meets Clarisse his life changed. He became to realize the strangeness in his life and he finds the meaning of the book. Then later he realizes his biggest mistake and it was not having better relationship with his wife. I like him because he knows what is wrong and he knows the things he did wrong.

Mildred- She is Montag’s wife who looks hopeless and sick. She likes to watch TV. Later she tries to help her husband but she betrays him. First I liked her because she has many similar things and I liked her until she begins to understand her husband and help him. However eventually she betrayed him and called the fireman, so later I don’t like her.

Captain Beatty- He is a captain of the fire department, and he hates book and people who reads book. Later he gets killed by Montag. I don’t like him because he bothers Montag.

Faber- He is a professor who likes books but caught by Montag in the past. He wants to tell that book is useful to world but he is afraid of it. Later when Montags tries to do good things with book Faber helps him. I like him because he helps Montag and he became brave.

Clarisse- She is a young girl who made Montag to realize the true life. But later Clarisse family get caught that they did the thing government don’t like. I like her because she made Montag to realize the true life, and she is pure.

Granger- He is the leader of Book Place, and helps Montag to escape from Hound. I liked him because he tries to make reading books are good.

Climax
I think the climax in this book is when Mildred reports to the fireman about her husband. The reasons are first because she reported to the fireman Montag has to run away and his life for book begins. Second because he ran away, we could predict that new characters will appear. So I think when Mildred reports to the fireman that Montag has books are the climax.

Mood
The mood of this book is not bright and not happy. It feels stuffy and lack of air. But when Clarisse appears it feels like an air, oxygen tank, and light. When people burns book it feels they are polluting the air. Anyway the mood of this books is stuffy.

Setting (disturbing)
The place that makes me disturb is Montag’s house, because it is complicated and it feels there is no light and air in there. If I go there I think I’m going to have a headache because of the TV. Montag’s house is meaningful because it is little bit similar with my room. When I go to my room it feels like something is empty but it cause a headache. So Montag’s house is meaningful to me.

Relationship with the world.
There are some relationship between this book and the world. First these day in the world, it became modernize so many electronic devices are improving and getting invent. So like in the book in the future the book will became a scrap of paper and TV, computers or other electronic devices will became a habits of us, and teach the knowledge. Second these days some people don’t have a desire to work or accomplish their dream like in this book, so like Montag, people should realize the importance of book or life.

Theme
The theme in this book is don’t be a person like Beatty or Mildred and her friends. These days many people depend on electronic devices and they like to play with them. People in these days don’t like to read books or many of them have lack of desire to work or accomplish their goal. So I think the author wants to warn us to read book and live free fully.

Quote that is significant.
“Do you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me it means texture. This book has pores.” This quote was significant because it tells that book is meaningful and has each quality. Also we could know that author wants to tell us that book is important. So this is the most significant quote in this book to me.

My feeling
After I read this I got worried about the future. Maybe in the future people will depend on the electronic devices even the hobby. These day many teenagers reads small amount books and they get addicted in computers or TV. Maybe like in the book the books will be uneccesary in the future. Anyway I Liked this book and it was fun and interesting, but the mood is depressed and stuffy.
